It certainly got our attention when Dan did us the honor of posting it to the contest. The original is in color, but we think this black and white version is absolutely stunning and engaging. Excellent work Dan!
Remember by just posting a cool pic in the ACC section of the Members FB group each month you can win FREE SWAG! If you’ve already taken the shot….put it to good use for your free $25 certificate.
A $25 ACS Store Certificate is on its way to you!

TEAMWORK Makes the DREAM WORK
The American Carp Society Team were lucky enough to spend some time together recently field testing the new Mandal Gold bait range and getting some great footage for an upcoming short film that we will be releasing in the New Year. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts and Sean proclaiming a 'mea culpa' on the organization of the session, we dearly missed Erick joining us in the fun. To follow are a few snaps of what occurred...We fished some pretty hard conditions with high pressure and cloudless skies…but the carp didn’t seem to mind once they found the bait!

Carp on the Fly - A Holiday Buyer’s Guide
By Brandon Tourigny
In this month’s fly tip I want to speak directly to those of you who have never fly fished for carp, but might be “fly curious.” Fly fishing is intimidating when you are getting started. The gear is to expensive, casting looks too hard, fly fishing is only for trout… all excuses I’ve heard as to why folks don’t want to get started fly fishing. Here, I want to help you fly curious readers create your fly fishing Christmas list so that you know where to get started and what to ask for, for Christmas!
First and foremost, you’ll need your fly rod set up. If you’re an angler looking for the perfect fly rod for carp specifically, I personally suggest a 9’ 7wt fly rod paired with a fully machined aluminum fly reel. I say this because these rods have plenty of backbone to handle the strong runs that carp are known for but lack the added weight of an 8 or 9wt. If you stick with rod brands like Orvis, TFO, or Scott, you will find rods of all price points and all with fantastic quality and warranties.
Between the three components of your set up, rod, reel, and fly line, your fly line should be where you never skimp on price. You can make an inexpensive fly rod feel like a premium outfit if you pair it with premium fly line. I have found that I can save money and buy an inexpensive fly rod, but buy high quality fly line, and have just as much success as I do when using premium fly rods. Personally, the best line I have ever seen or used for carp is the Scientific Anglers Amplitude Bonefish.
Once you have your rod outfit you only truly need four more things. A 9’ tapered leader, 10lb fluorocarbon tippet, flies, and a fly box to hold them in. For flies you should look for small imitations of leaches and crayfish. Eagan’s Headstand, Zimmerman’s Backstabber Fly, and Barry’s Carp Bitter are all great places to start when deciding what flies to begin with. Custom tied flies like the ACS Carpsidious fly give anglers an extra edge since there is a very good probability the carp in your area have never seen these.
In summery, if you’re an angler looking to start chasing carp on the fly here is your final list of absolute essentials you should have on your holiday wishlist.
1. 7wt Fly Rod
2. 7wt Fly Reel
3. 7wt fly line
4. 9’ tapered leader & 10lb Fluorocarbon tippet
5. Carp Flies
6. Fly Box
Odom on the Fly
For our final podcast of 2020 this month we will be discussing 'Carp on the Fly' with American Carp Society member Odom Wu from San Antonio...An incredible photographer and angler we share some laughs and great discussion on the pursuit of the 'Golden Bones' in the Texas Hill Country.
Odom shares his love for the fish and the learning curve, that is all too familiar, for most fly Anglers when they first attempt to try targeting Carp....and the value of patience that is needed. We also look at Kayak fishing and the challenges encountered whilst being towed around the river by an angry carp! A great episode full of fly fishing tips and experiences...
